BCREA ECONOMICS NOW
Canadian Manufacturing Sales - September 14, 2012
Canadian manufacturing sales fell 1.5 per cent in July, the third decline in the past five months. Lower sales of transportation equipment, particularly in the aerospace industry, were largely responsible for July's decline, though 11 of 21 manufacturing sub-sectors reported lower sales.
Contrary to the national trend, BC manufacturing sales rose 0.6 per cent in July and were 1.8 per cent higher than in July 2011. BC manufacturing sales were lead higher by BC’s durables goods sector where sales rose 2.5 per cent due to strength in primary metal and machinery manufacturing.
